- Re: Roll call....
As you can tell i have been away from RBP for a few weeks.
And water is very low everywhere around here (Quebec) so i dont think too much
about paddling.

- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
Looks like TEVA has joined kleenex, xerox, and bandaid as a generic
noun, unless you really meant that brand. I go for Keens and sox, me.
Is this a general observation, or are you still talking about footwear?
Unless you have small feet, river sandals won't fit in most WW kayaks
(Size 12 Keens fit in a sea kayak), so a neoprene bootie of some sort is
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
I've paddled tripping boats for years, and done lots of immediate post-
thaw rafting (in both self-bailing and bucket boats). Spent a lot of
time figuring out footwear....
If you only need boots to access your boat, and its a canoe, I suggest
some high topped rubber boots (Wellingtons, if you are in England).
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
Pete,
I got my SCUBA certification and nobody even noticed I wasn't wearing
flippers.... ;-)
15AAA? You must have as difficult a time as I do finding footwear. New
Balance footwear company is my saving grace. They make most of their shoes
available in sizes way past mine!
My first girlfriend's dad (ex-Navy) would look at my shoes and say,

Per Steve Cramer:
That was definitely a component of my decision to switch.
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
It becomes obvious why you do not paddle a decked kayak. ;)

Per Robert Scott:
You sound like my college swimming coach's dream.
He used to look at my size 15aaa's and mutter "Cresswell, if we
could only flatten those things out...". -)
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
One more to check out is a really nice neoprene sailing bootie made by
Ronstan (a brand name any of your sailors out there will be familiar with).
One interesting feature is a small "divider" in the shoe between the big and
second toes. This helps prevent the foot moving around laterally in the
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
Wear Xtra Tuffs.
- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
Been using these for years...

- Re: What to use for cooler-weather footwear?
I just wear sandals (Keen Newports) and wool socks, and this is good
down into the 30s F. But I almost always manage to launch without
getting my feet wet.
The Neoprene booties are a good idea. Or if you paddle a canoe you could
wear rubber wading boots and change into something more comfy once afloat.

- wheeleez beach cart - seat cover???
I have seen this product on a couple web pages, they mention that a
certain model of canoe/kayak beach cart "accepts the seat cover,
converting it into a camp stool".
I've found a few places that sell the cart but so far I can't find any
place that sells, or even shows, the seat cover. Wheeleez doesn't even
- Re: Roll call....
I just showed up ~3 weeks ago, check rbp every couple days or so.
I do not use Google for newsgroups, I go through my service provider.
I look at boatertalk now and then, not very much there for flatwater
kayakers.
I check a local Yahoo group, but I dislike the Yahoo groups discussion
layout. Too much white space, a lot of unnecessary scrolling.

Hello jaybird,

Well said. While I'm often happy enough to engage in long-winded
technical drivel (as seen here and in other threads), I'm even more
interested in how people live with--and sometimes find ways to
express--their "inner paddling". Just as with music, technique is
something we learn so that we can use it, transcend it, and "return"
